Air Fryer Buffalo Chicken Wings Recipe for 4 People
Ingredients:
- 2 lbs (approx. 1 kg) chicken wings, split into flats and drumettes
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup hot sauce (preferably Frank's RedHot or your favorite brand)
- Optional: Ranch or blue cheese dressing, carrot sticks, and celery sticks for serving
Instructions:
1. In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Toss the chicken wings in the seasoned flour mixture until evenly coated.
2. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.
3. Place the coated chicken wings in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they are not crowded to allow for even cooking.
4. Cook the wings in the air fryer for approximately 25-30 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until they are crispy and have reached an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
5. While the wings are cooking, prepare the Buffalo sauce. In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter. Stir in the hot sauce, and cook until the mixture is well combined and heated through.
6. Once the wings are done cooking, transfer them to a large bowl. Pour the Buffalo sauce over the wings and toss them to coat evenly.
7. Serve the Air Fryer Buffalo Chicken Wings immediately, accompanied by ranch or blue cheese dressing, and traditional carrot and celery sticks to cool the heat of this spicy delight.
Equipment Needed:
- Air fryer
- Large bowl for coating the wings
- Small saucepan for making the Buffalo sauce
Commonly Made Mistakes and Points of Care:
1. Overcrowding the Air Fryer: Ensure the chicken wings are arranged in a single layer in the air fryer basket, with enough space between them. Overcrowding can lead to uneven cooking and prevent the wings from becoming adequately crispy.
2. Seasoning the Wings: The seasoned flour mixture plays a crucial role in enhancing the flavor of the wings. Ensure the wings are well coated with the seasoned flour for a delightful taste experience.
3. Temperature and Time: Cooking times may vary depending on the size of the wings and the specific air fryer model. Keep a close eye on the wings to prevent overcooking or undercooking. Check the internal temperature with a food thermometer to ensure they are fully cooked.
4. Buffalo Sauce Balance: Adjust the ratio of hot sauce to butter in the Buffalo sauce to suit your spice preference. You can add a little honey or brown sugar if you prefer a slightly sweet and spicy combination.
5. Serving: For the most satisfying experience, serve the Air Fryer Buffalo Chicken Wings immediately after tossing them in the Buffalo sauce to maintain their crispy texture.
