This breakfast delight starts with a blend of rolled oats, softened by soaking in milk or yogurt. Fresh fruits, such as apples and berries, offer a burst of natural sweetness and vibrant color. A sprinkle of nuts and seeds adds a delightful crunch, and a drizzle of honey brings everything together.
Swiss Muesli Recipe for 4 People
Ingredients:
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 2 cups milk (dairy or plant-based) or yogurt
- 2 apples, grated
- 1 cup mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, or your choice)
- 2 tablespoons seeds (sunflower seeds, flaxseeds, chia seeds)
- 2 tablespoons honey
- Fresh mint leaves, for garnish (optional)
Preparation Time:
- Approximately 10 minutes of work - Marinate overnight if possible
Instructions:
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats and milk (or yogurt). Stir well to ensure the oats are fully soaked. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight for a creamier texture.
2. Before serving, grate the apples and add them to the soaked oats. Mix thoroughly.
3. Wash and prepare the mixed berries, then gently fold them into the muesli.
4. Toast the chopped nuts in a dry pan over low heat until fragrant and lightly browned. Allow them to cool, then add them to the muesli along with the seeds.
5. Drizzle honey over the muesli for a touch of sweetness. Adjust the amount to your preference.
6. Serve the Swiss Style Muesli in bowls, garnished with fresh mint leaves if desired.
Suggested Side Dishes:
- Freshly brewed coffee or herbal tea
- A selection of Swiss cheeses and crusty bread
- Yogurt with honey and almonds
Equipment Needed:
- Large mixing bowl
- Grater for the apples
- Pan for toasting nuts (optional)
Commonly Made Mistakes and Points of Care:
1. Soaking Time: Ensure the oats have enough time to soak in the milk or yogurt. Longer soaking time, even overnight, can result in a creamier texture.
2. Grating Apples: Grate the apples just before adding them to the muesli to prevent browning.
3. Honey Drizzle: Adjust the amount of honey to your preference for sweetness.
4. Customisation: Feel free to customise your muesli with your favourite fruits, nuts, and seeds. Swiss Style Muesli is highly adaptable.
5. Consistency: If the muesli is too thick, you can add a bit more milk or yogurt to reach your desired consistency.
